Brighton Starling Murmuration - stunning photos and videos of the Brighton Murmurations!
Starlings performing their murmurations can be seen on Brighton seafront over the winter months, with the peak months being January to their departure in early March. To witness this stunning natural wonder simply turn up at the beach about 30 minutes before sunset!
On a good year the annual murmuration see tens of thousands of starlings visit Brighton seafront to perform their swirling aerial dance between the West Pier and Brighton Palace Pier. Starlings are thought to perform this display to exchange information, so that they can separate into groups to roost together for warmth and for safety in numbers (a local peregrine falcon nests in the large tower block 'Sussex Heights' seen in the video below).
Starlings use the Earth's magnetic field for navigation so they can find their way to Brighton each winter. However, some are locals and like to stay behind and can be seen year round (generally in small groups), if you're lucky.
