The Milky Way arching above the Chattri Memorial.
The Chattri, unveiled in 1921 by the Prince of Wales, is a beautiful memorial to the Indian Soldiers who died during the First World War - it is located on the South Downs on the edge of Brighton (Google Maps). During the First World War injured Indian soldiers were taken to the Royal Pavilion, the first Indian hospital in Brighton. The Hindu and Sikh soldiers who died were cremated at the site where the Chattri now stands.
It is possibly my favourite relaxing spot close to Brighton and well worth a visit, being an easy 30-minute walk across the Downs from parking on Braypool Lane.

A close-up photo of the Milky Way above Brighton taken from close to the Chattri. This photo was taken after the Milky Way arch photo, hence the more elevated angle of the Milky Way as it rotates across the sky.
Landmarks - What You Can See:
The main buildings rising above the skyline are (from left to right) Chartwell Court (above the Churchill Square car park), Sussex Heights and the Brighton i360. The wooded area below these landmarks is that of Withdean Park.
The red and yellow lights of the Wind Turbines out at sea can be seen to the right of the photo.
The Sky - What You Can See:
The pink nebulae Eagle (M16), Omega (M17) and Lagoon (M8) are visible in the Milky Way’s core. The darker parts of the Milky Way are interstellar dust lanes, an accumulation of gas, plasma, and dust; with the dark lane running through the middle of the core known as the 'Great Rift'.
